Knowing about your soy blend candle is helpful when making informed purchases. Before you light up, let’s explore everything you need to know about blends. From their benefits to some of the challenges, we’re here to guide you so you know before you buy.

Soy Blend Candles: Information on Each Top Wax Blend

There are many variations of waxes and today, we’ll examine the top three. Similar to our blog post on Beeswax vs Soy Wax, we want to make sure we tell you all of the facts, even if it is not our practice to create our candles with some products we mention.

We will always be transparent with you about that. It is a value we pride ourselves most on in our business.

Coconut and Soy

These are always good choices as stand-alone waxes, but also a good choice for a blend of health-conscious and natural candles. You get a two-for-one wax, as together they contain the same properties.

Coconut-soy blends are non-toxic, biodegradable, and a renewable sustainable resource that makes it a great choice if you are looking for a healthier candle.

This blended wax is more stable and therefore can “throw” the scent. This means it smells really nice while burning.

Soy and Beeswax

As mentioned above, we’ve done an entire blog regarding the pros and cons of soy vs beeswax. However, let’s concentrate on the combination.

Both are natural products, and sustainable. When blending these two, you will get a longer burning candle. The ratio will normally be 3:1 in favor of soy wax.

Neither wax holds color as well as paraffin or paraffin blends. However, there are a lot more negatives associated with paraffin. We get into more about that when we discuss Are Soy Candles Safe?

Also, beeswax being golden by nature will definitely affect the overall appearance of the candle.

Soy and Paraffin

Sometimes referred to as “Para-Soy,” this wax is a combination of soy wax and paraffin wax. Paraffin is derived from petroleum, so when you burn a paraffin candle, you are actually burning petroleum, which has many carcinogens. Yikes!

This wax is used when one wants the beauty of soy and the stability of paraffin. Paraffin holds color and scent better than any other wax, but there are tradeoffs.

Paraffin supporters will state the paraffin used in wax today is food-grade making it a safe choice. We want to minimize any possible dangers, therefore we will not use any product with known properties that can have carcinogens.

It is important to recognize the characteristics of soy candles as a solo wax used in candles and why we choose to use 100% natural soy.

How to Know What Your Candle is Made Of

When selecting a candle, it’s essential to know what it’s made of to ensure it aligns with your preferences and values. But how do you know what the candle is made of?

Look for labels that specify the type of wax used, such as soy, beeswax, or paraffin. Soy and beeswax candles are popular choices for eco-conscious consumers, as they are renewable and biodegradable. Again, we discussed above that there are some downsides to that blend. Just be aware of them.

Additionally, check for any additives or fragrances used in the candle, especially if you have sensitivities or allergies. Understanding the composition of your candle ensures you can enjoy its glow with peace of mind.

Transparency is key when it comes to candle ingredients. Some manufacturers may attempt to obscure or omit certain ingredients to avoid scrutiny or to cut costs. However, this practice goes against regulations such as the FTC Fair Packaging and Labeling Act, which requires accurate labeling of consumer products, including candles.

Consumers have the right to know exactly what they’re bringing into their homes. This is especially the case when it comes to products that release fragrances into the air they breathe. By being informed and aware of these regulations, you can make empowered choices and hold manufacturers accountable for providing clear and accurate ingredient information. We list the ingredients on our candles: 100% natural soy wax.

Also safe are our clean candle scents. You can read more about that in our Guide to Knowing the Importance of Clean Candle Scents

Knowledge is Power as a Consumer

We feel that it is important to make sure you know as much as possible about a business’ candle-making process. If you have any questions about the process at Southern Oak Artisan, let us know! We are an open book when it comes to our sustainable candle company.

Don’t be afraid to contact the manufacturer of a candle you receive or purchase. You can ask questions such as their blend, ingredients as well as their average burn time, and what fragrance oil is used in the candle— if it is scented.

Unfortunately, not all candle-making businesses are transparent. Just like any industry, some will try to cut corners, even if it means that it makes it dangerous or unhealthy for the consumer.

Illuminate Your Space with Confidence

With this knowledge in hand, you can light up your space with confidence. You will feel at ease when every flicker of your candle brings not just warmth and light, but also peace of mind.

There are many other soy blends, but we have discussed the top three. We stand by our values and opinions to make candles that are as safe, pleasingly scented, and beautiful as possible.
