June Cookie Challenge: Lavender Shortbread Cookies

Southern Living Lavender Shortbread Cookies

Epic Fail. Only way to describe it. I followed this recipe to a T. It looked beautiful, but like its kinfolk, the turkey in the film, “Christmas Vacation”, exploded into dust. It went all over the kitchen as soon as I tried to cut it. My dog said he loved it as he licked it up off the floor.

Let’s Get Going

I’m not sure where to start and not positive I should even get into the baking details, nor does it matter. I will let you know that I tasted the destruction. I could see where it could be quite the dessert. It had a nice buttery, shall I say nutty, taste of shortbread, but an odd salty aftertaste. I have never eaten lavender so I did what every good American would do. I googled it.

Google said lavender had a mild flowery taste between a rose and rosemary with a not-so-nice aftertaste. That was it. The aftertaste was lavender. I found it to be quite salty, but there wasn’t that much salt, so it had to be the lavender.

The Results

If I made this again, and I’d like to give it another try, I would lose the lavender and use a tad less salt. It was a very simple recipe with very few ingredients. It took only about 45 minutes from start to finish.

Bottom line, I want to make some modifications and see how it turns out. Let me know if you try it and your results. I’ll be waiting to hear from you. Really, I will be waiting to see if I am the only one who had a problem with this recipe, so please, for the love of God, tell me if you did. Misery loves company.

Be sure to tag @southernfamilydecor on social media if you post. I’d love to see your pics! Really. Don’t leave me out to dry.
